This essay is an attempt to give those something to aim for who painfully experience the increasing disconnect between, on one side, the never-ending struggle for national self-sufficiency and for international supremacy and on the other side the eternal wish by self-governing, communal human beings to live in countries that get along decently, imaginatively and even magnanimously with other countries.
