The Coal Industry of the Former USSR presents a two-part study of coal supply systems and development of the industry in the territory of the former USSR. The first part covers the role of coal in the economy, provides an overview of current status and forecast of the eight major coal basins and environmental problems associated with the industry. It concludes with a discussion of the principles and problems related to the development of regional energy problems. The second part covers technological advances and development of coal carbonization, gasification, liquefaction and agglomeration.
