First Families of Bledsoe County, Tennessee

AUTHOR Robnett, Elizabeth
PUBLISHER Heritage Books (08/23/2024)
PRODUCT TYPE Paperback (Paperback)

Description

Bledsoe was the first county to be formed in Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee in 1807, just two years after the Cherokee Indians ceded a large portion of the valley to the United States government. The author opens this publication with a historical sketch of Sequatchie Valley, then proceeds to recount the creation of Bledsoe and its settlement. The town of Pikeville and its significance in the Civil War is also explored in the first half of this work.

Biographies of members of several of the first families living in the county make up the core of this work, followed by the first black families and a list of the heads of households, which both add a wealth of genealogical information. The author closes with obscure facts about Bledsoe, and a full-name index.
