He received bachelor and masters degrees in electrical engineering from Purdue University. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and its Communications Society. Casey has over 36 years experience in aerospace optical systems, of which 32 have been on space related programs. He invented and built a Viewfinder Tracking System for Earth Resources used by three crews on Skylab and was the responsible engineer for the Space Shuttle Star Trackers. He holds a patent for and built the first wavelength combined multiple diode laser used as a laser communications source. He graduated Cum Laude in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA.
