Dr. Jose Sanchez-Boudy was born in Havana and died in Miami in February 2015. He was professor emeritus of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. In the exile worked tirelessly to preserve the essences of the Cuban culture and traditions and has published more than one hundred books.Among them several volumes which his dictionaries on Cuban slang, jokes and proverbs.
After previously publishing 6 volumes of the Diccionario de cubanismos más usuales, in 1999 Ediciones Universal published DICCIONARIO MAYOR DE CUBANISMOS, which is the most comprehensive and complete work on the ways Cuban people speak. A short time later, Ediciones Universal publishes Diccionario de Refranes Populars Cubanos (Dictionary of Cuban popular sayings), Antologia de chistes (Anthology of Cuban jokes) and this book of piropos (compliments or pick-up lines). The book is a compilation of the expressions with which the Cuban people fall in love. Short phrases with all the spark, humor and love the Cuban people are known for.
