Neurosurgical trauma is quite common, especially at high volume level 1 trauma centers around the world. The brain and spine often absorb a significant amount of the forces and thus are subject to enormous injury. Neurosurgical trauma is extremely diverse ranging from the most minor of intracranial bleeds to the significant anoxic brain injury and quadriplegia. Many of these cases are considered neurosurgical emergencies and so immediate diagnosis and management are key. In this textbook, we have tried to illustrate many unique cases we have encountered in our training. These cases have taught us a great deal about management and surgical treatment options for a variety of different neurosurgical trauma cases.
