Description
Foundations of the Nineteenth Century is a two-volume work by Houston Stewart Chamberlain, first published in 1899. This book is the second volume of the work and was published in 1912. The book is a study of the history and culture of Europe from the 18th century to the end of the 19th century. Chamberlain argues that the cultural and intellectual achievements of Europe during this period were based on the unique qualities of the European people, particularly the Germanic peoples. He asserts that these qualities include a strong sense of individualism, a love of freedom, and a deep appreciation for the arts and sciences. The book is notable for its emphasis on racial theory and its influence on the development of Nazi ideology. Chamberlain's ideas were used by the Nazis to justify their policies of racial purity and the superiority of the Aryan race. Despite its controversial nature, Foundations of the Nineteenth Century remains an important work in the history of European thought and the development of racial theory. In Two Volumes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
