Juan Eugenio Hartzenbusch Mart nez (Madrid, 1806-Madrid, 1880). Espa a Es uno de los m s destacados dramaturgos rom nticos. De madre espa ola y padre alem n arruinado por la Guerra de Independencia, qued hu rfano de madre a los dos a os y vivi con su padre en Valpara so de Abajo. En 1815 regres a Madrid, donde su padre abri un taller de ebanister a. Juan Eugenio se dispuso a tomar los h bitos jesuitas en el Colegio de San Isidro, aprendi lat n, franc s y humanidades, pero, al carecer de vocaci n religiosa, decidi continuar con la actividad del padre. Tras una enfermedad de ste y la confiscaci n de sus bienes por participar en los sucesos del Trienio Liberal (1820-1823), trabaj en talleres ajenos. Hartzenbusch tradujo obras de Moli re, Voltaire y Alejandro Dumas y trabaj en el peri dico Gaceta de Madrid en 1834;en 1837 fue taqu grafo del Diario de Sesiones del Congreso y el 19 de enero de ese a o estren con xito en el Teatro del Pr ncipe su drama Los amantes de Teruel. Reescribi la obra varias veces;y la edici n definitiva fue publicada en 1849. Desde 1844 trabaj en la Biblioteca Nacional, donde lleg a ser director (1862-1876). Ingres adem s en la Real Academia Espa ola en 1847. Muri en 1880.
