Description
This volume is a companion to the popular Biographical Dictionary of English Literature, already in the reference section, which has been reprinted eight times. The present book deals with upwards of five hundred and fifty foreign authors, the term 'foreign' here covering, 'European non-English' countries the literatures represented being Belgian (and Flemish), Bohemian, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French (and Provencal), German, Modern Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Rumanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Swiss. The entries are not limited to a few lines, for, in addition to the biographical account, each entry contains as complete a list as possible of the writer's works with their dates (English translations being noted with their titles) and the major entries run to well over a page each. This is the only dictionary of its kind on the market at anything like a popular price, and comes appropriately at a time when the interest in foreign literature is greater than it has ever been in the past. Keywords: Biographical Dictionary English Literature English Translations Modern Greek Biographical Account Rumanian Book Deals Eight Times Provencal Flemish Literatures Bohemian Appropriately Upwards Finnish Hungarian Norwegian Companion Danish European Countries
