PUBLISHER Kessinger Publishing (06/17/2004)
PRODUCT TYPE Paperback (Paperback)

Description
The Movements And Habits Of Climbing Plants is a scientific book written by Charles Darwin, which explores the behavior and growth patterns of various species of climbing plants. In this book, Darwin discusses his observations and experiments on the climbing plants, including their ability to move and adjust to their environment, their methods of climbing, and the various types of support structures they use. He also examines the role of light and gravity in the growth and movement of these plants, as well as their reproductive habits and the adaptations they have developed to survive in different environments. The book provides a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the behavior and characteristics of climbing plants, and is considered a seminal work in the field of botany.A revolving tendril, though inclined during the greater part of its course at an angle of about 45 degrees (in one case of only 37 degrees) above the horizon, stiffened and straightened itself from tip to base in a certain part of its course, thus becoming nearly or quite vertical. I witnessed this repeatedly; and it occurred both when the supporting internodes were free and when they were tied up; but was perhaps most conspicuous in the latter case. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Author: Darwin, Charles
Charles Darwin was an English naturalist and author best-known for his revolutionary theories on the origin of species, human evolution, and natural selection. A life-long interest in the natural world led Darwin to neglect his medical studies and instead embark on a five-year scientific voyage on the HMS Beagle, where he established his reputation as a geologist and gathered much of the evidence that fuelled his later theories.A prolific writer, Darwin s most famous published works include The Voyage of the Beagle, On the Origin of Species, The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, and The Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals. Darwin died in 1882, and in recognition of his contributions to science, is buried in Westminster Abbey along with John Herschel and Isaac Newton.
