Venus and Adonis is a poem written by William Shakespeare in 1593. The poem is based on the story of Venus, the Roman goddess of love, and Adonis, a handsome young hunter. In the poem, Venus falls in love with Adonis and tries to persuade him to stay with her instead of going hunting. Adonis, however, is determined to go hunting and rejects Venus' advances. Despite Venus' warnings, Adonis is killed by a wild boar while hunting. The poem explores themes of love, desire, and mortality.
