Carole Sue Bailey, known as "Sue," Deaf herself, grew up in Birmingham, Alabama where she attended the Alabama School for the Deaf. Her mother and father were both Deaf as are her two sisters, her aunts, uncles and cousins. Sue is truly a native user of ASL. At the age of 11, her family moved to Maryland, where she attended the Maryland School for the Deaf. She then attended the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, New York for two years, Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. for four years where she received her B.A. degree and McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland where she received her M.Ed. degree. In 1976 she moved to Edmonton where she has worked ever since, becoming one of Canada's finest educators. Carole Sue teaches at the Alberta School for the Deaf, specializing in Deaf Education.
