C'est le jour du premier marathon du père de Madeleine et ils sont en retard. Pendant que son père s'inscrit à la course, Madeleine va chercher la bouteille d'eau à l'arrière de la voiture. En chemin, elle entend le son du pistolet et les coureurs détalent à toute allure.
Sachant que son père ne pourra jamais compléter le marathon sans sa bouteille d'eau, Madeleine se mêle aux participants pour le rattraper. Avez-vous vu mon papa? demande-t-elle aux coureurs. Certains répondent gentiment et d'autres l'ignorent complètement. Personne ne semble avoir vu son père.
Madeleine dépasse enfin la ligne d'arrivée où elle retrouve son papa... et une merveilleuse surprise!
Madeleine's dad is going to his very first marathon. But they get there late and Dad sends Madeleine back to the car for his lucky water bottle. Before she can find it, the starter's horn goes off and the runners are off!Madeleine grabs the water bottle and dashes down the course looking for her dad. She runs up hills and down hills, and catches up with runners wearing tutus and vegetable costumes and normal clothes. She asks each one: "Have you seen my dad?" Some of the runners are nice, some ignore her, and some call her a pipsqueak, but none of them has seen her father.
Finally Madeleine gets to the finish line, where she finds her father... and gets a surprise!
