Description
PREFACE. THE Fourteenth Regiment, twenty years after its organization, and seventeen years after its work in the Great Rebellion has done, publishes its memorial volume. And still it is the first organization of Union volunteers from the Granite State to issue a work of this kind. In ommiting thus long, it is probable that a more satisfactory volume has been produced than could have resulted from an earlier attempt at publication... This book was intended by the Committee to attain three ends First, to present an accurate history of the Fourteenth New Hampshire Volunteers, and a record of all its members up to the present Year. A complete history was not contemplated, --that were an impossibility for it would necessarily include the detailed story of more than thirteen hundred eventruI lives during their entire connection with the regiment. It is believed that these pages record all of the important events in the life of the organization, and perhaps also a large proportion of the prominent incidents which filled out the months and years of its service.....
