PREFACE: This little volume is simply what its title indicates, a "Practical Guide" in the treatment of the common forms of acute disease. It is not the aim of this work to make physicians of the public, nor is it to be expected that every case of disease can be safely treated by domestic practice, nevertheless a long list of acute and serious diseases may be treated with greater success by following the directions here given than they are treated by the ordinary drugging physicians....... This early works contains much information that is still useful and practical today. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
