This book focuses on Shia scholar Sharif al-Murtaza, who lived in the tenth and eleventh centuries when Shia was politically very active and its foundational texts were written. This book studies this important Islamic scholar's life, times, and ideas, especially his interpretation of the Quran and his critical and rational approach to methodology. The author argues that his findings reveal that neither the Shiite conception of the Quran nor its understanding of interpretation presents a monolithic structure.
