Al Razi, was a great Muslim personality in Medical history. He was known by his Latinized name Rhazes (854 CE - 925 CE), an Islamic polymath, physician, alchemist and chemist, philosopher and important figure in the history of medicine and as the discoverer of alcohol and vitriol (sulfuric acid) is well known. He was among the first to use Humoralism to distinguish one contagious disease from another and has been described as doctor's doctor, the father of pediatrics, and a pioneer of ophthalmology. The selection of al Razi was in the process of Ihyaa al Turath al Arabi fil Mahjar (Revival of Arab Heritage in Diaspora project under: Islamic Personalities series sponsored by the Arab American Encyclopedia for the purpose of serving young Arab generations in Diaspora.
