Xenophon's "The Cavalry General" and "On Horsemanship" are some of the earliest surviving treatises on their subjects from the Classical world. Xenophon, a student of Socrates and member of the famous Ten Thousand, was an astute military student and participated in or observed many of the important events of his time. These works are an invaluable insight into the use of cavalry and care for horses in Ancient Greece, and remain a useful tool for modern historians and equestrian enthusiasts alike.
