The Haitian-Creole play Masuife depicts the dire plight of three Haitian braceros in the Dominican Republic. The characters: Kongo, Konga and Kongolito find themselves caught in the grips of exploitation, stigmatization and ostracism on a batey in the Dominican Republic as they desperately struggle to hold on to their humanity, to negotiate their cramped living space and their relationships with each other. Amid this ordeal, they also attempt to make sense of their slave-like experiences in the hostile "host country" and to name the forces that uprooted them from their homeland.
