Given the dozens of books and hundreds of articles written about Reza Shah, one might wonder why there is no reliable information about his childhood-especially about his mother. It seems that no researcher has asked, or perhaps wanted to ask, what kind of family this man-who irreversibly changed the course of Iranian history-came from, what his living conditions were, and which people or factors influenced the formation of his character.

Could it be that certain forces have exaggerated the idea that young Reza grew up in poverty, misery, and despair, without schooling, illiterate, and as a street thug? Or, for some reason, was it intentionally left unclear who Noushafarin, Reza Shah's mother, was, or what her family background entailed?

This book, a semi-historical account of the childhood of this remarkable man, does not claim to offer definitive answers to these questions. However, it opens doors to truths that may help illuminate the path to a better understanding.
