"Yinyang and Wuxing (five elements)" is a systems theroy characteristic to the Chinese culture. It holds that system is an abstraction or miniature of the formation and evoluation of universe, and a complete system should be composed of the Yinyang system and Wuxing system which are closely integrated. In this article, the author probes into the essence and underlying nature of Yinyang and Wuxing from a scientific point of view and, in plain words, he presents the views on universe, matter and life from the perspective of Yinyang and Wuxing. The universe before the big bang is sustained by gravitational force and free movement force, while after the explosion the expansive force begins to dominate the entire universe. The theory of Yinyang expresses the expansive force's control and influence on objective things, while the theory of five elements expresses the free movement force's control and influence on objective things. The theory of Yinyang and Wuxing may help us open up new horizons in the researches of modern basic science.
