The Steam Locomotives were the pioneer locomotives in India and they helped the Railways reach to every part of the country. The steam locomotives have a very rich history, given the number of types used and the over century long operational usage. Their rich heritage can be gauged from the fact that they are still in operation today, while DC locomotives which were introduced much later, have faded away.
