The philosophy o f education in India is rooted in Indian culture. The basic character o f Indian culture is its integral approach to life. The integral approach o f education is the perfect blend of idealism, pragmatism, rationalism and humanism. It brings out the unity in diversity which enables the harmonious co-existence of the individual, the society and the nature. The function o f education is to ignite the process of the thinking in individuals and generate fearlessness in pursuit o f truth, compassion and Iraternity in dealing with fellowmen, science instead of superstition, rationality in the place o f obscurantism, strength and effort to realize the divinity. The major objective of education is creation and transmission of knowledge.
