Description

in days to come, when Siddhartha would become a god, he would be there

pan fyddai yn ymuno â'r gogoneddus, byddai yno

when he would join the glorious, he would be there

Roedd Govinda eisiau ei ddilyn fel ei ffrind

Govinda wanted to follow him as his friend

efe oedd ei gydymaith a'i was

he was his companion and his servant

efe oedd ei gludydd gwaywffon a'i gysgod

he was his spear-carrier and his shadow

Roedd pawb yn caru Siddhartha

Siddhartha was loved by everyone

Roedd yn destun llawenydd i bawb

He was a source of joy for everybody

yr oedd yn hyfrydwch iddynt oll

he was a delight for them all

Ond nid oedd ef, Siddhartha, yn ffynhonnell llawenydd iddo'i hun

But he, Siddhartha, was not a source of joy for himself

ni chafodd ddim hyfrydwch ynddo ei hun

he found no delight in himself

Author: Hesse, Hermann
Nobel Prize-winner Hermann Hesse was a German-Swiss poet, novelist and painter who is best-known for his seminal novels Siddhartha, Steppenwolf, and The Glass Bead Game. A child of missionaries, Hesse s writings are heavily influenced by Eastern mysticism, spirituality and the search for self-knowledge, themes that resonated with the hippie culture of the 1960s and which contributed to a resurgence in interest for Hesse s work following his death in 1962.
