Olim vixit sartor pauper

Once upon a time there lived a poor tailor

pauper sartor habebat filium nomine Aladdin

this poor tailor had a son called Aladdin

Aladdin erat incautus, puer ignavus, qui nihil faciebat

Aladdin was a careless, idle boy who did nothing

quamquam totum diem ludere faciebat

although, he did like to play ball all day long

hoc fecit in plateis cum aliis pueris otiosis

this he did in the streets with other little idle boys

Is adeo contristatus est patri ut moreretur

This so grieved the father that he died

mater eius et oravit et nihil profuit

his mother cried and prayed, but nothing helped

non obstante deprecando, Aladdin vias suas non emendavit

despite her pleading, Aladdin did not mend his ways
