This textbook first published in 1992, has won the Nagadi Award for "the best publication in civil engineering" from the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers. Now, appearing in its 3rd edition, it retains the best features from the earlier editions and adds significantly to the contents, which include developments in the nineties. The chapter on Soil-Structure Interaction has undergone a major revision incorporating additional text, which includes many recent developments, making it an up-to-date source of reference and study of this subject.
