The 2013 International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED) will be the nineteenth held since the conference series was inaugurated in 1981. It will also be the sixth held under the auspices of the Design Society, an international society founded in 2001 to develop an understanding of all aspects of Design. This proceedings is a compilation of the 342 peer-reviewed and accepted papers submitted to ICED13. Herr Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Klaus Ehrlenspiel absolvierte sein Studium des Maschinenbaus und war danach wissenschaftlicher Assistent bei Professor Niemann an der TH MA1/4nchen. 1962 promovierte Professor Ehrlenspiel zum Dr.-Ing. AnschlieAend erfolgten IndustrietAtigkeiten in leitenden Positionen. Herr Ehrlenspiel war dann von 1973 bis 1976 Professor fA1/4r Maschinenelemente an der TU Hannover und von 1976 bis 1995 Professor fA1/4r Konstruktion im Maschinenbau an der TU MA1/4nchen. Seit 1995 ist Professor Ehrlenspiel emeritiert.

Herr Dr.-Ing. Alfons Kiewert absolvierte sein Studium des Maschinenbaus an der Ingenieurschule Duisburg und an der TU Hannover. Danach war er wissenschaftlicher Assistent an der TU Hannover und der TU MA1/4nchen. 1979 promovierte Herr Kiewert zum Dr.-Ing. an der TU MA1/4nchen. Seit 1979 ist er Oberingenieur am Lehrstuhl fA1/4r Produktentwicklung der TU MA1/4nchen.

Herr Prof. Dr.-Ing. Udo Lindemann hat nach seiner Promotion viele Jahre in der Industrie gearbeitet. Seit 1995 ist er fA1/4r den Lehrstuhl fA1/4r Produktentwicklung der TU MA1/4nchen verantwortlich. Lehre und Forschung konzentrieren sich auf die Entwicklung von Strategien fA1/4r die frA1/4hen Entwicklungsphasen, Vorgehensweisen zur Produktinnovation, Fragen des Kostenmanagements und des Rechnereinsatzes in der Produktentwicklung sowie die BerA1/4cksichtigung psychologischer und soziologischer Erkenntnisse.
