Larger Cambridge LXX - The Old Testament in Greek: Pentateuch (Genesis - Deuteronomy)

AUTHOR Brooke, Alan England; McLean, Norman
PUBLISHER Independently Published (11/15/2024)
PRODUCT TYPE Hardcover (Hardcover)

Description

A massive and detailed critical edition of the LXX (Septuagint Greek Old Testament), published by the Cambridge University Press.

This is a very important work for the study of the LXX, as it contains a magnitude of information which is not found in the more commonly used Greek editions (e.g. Rahlf's LXX and Brenton's LXX).

The main text is based on the famous Codex Vatican us, and is accompanied by three scholarly apparatuses:

  1. Information on minor spelling differences between the ancient Majuscule (Uncial) manuscripts of the LXX, including Itacisms and other spellings that don't usually affect the meaning.
  2. Detailed notes on substantial variants of all known extant Majuscule (Uncial) manuscripts of the LXX, as well as 30 cursive manuscripts selected as important witnesses to the Greek textual tradition. Alternative readings known from other ancient versions, as well as those found in quotations from Josephus and early Christian writings.
  3. Variant readings from Origen's Hexapla, as preserved in various marginal notes in ancient manuscripts, etc.

This volume contains the Pentateuch (Torah: Genesis - Deuteronomy).
