When Hannah Green (1928-1996) died, the New York Times noted that she was "an acclaimed author who wrote one slender novel of such delicately distilled perfection that she could hardly bring herself to compose another." They further noted that the rerelease of THE DEAD OF THE HOUSE six months before her death had been received with almost as much critical enthusiasm as its original publication a generation earlier. Her book, Little Saint, a Life of Saint Foy, was published posthumously.
