The book is the first interdisciplinary survey of the intellectual history of Romania from the Early Modern period up to present times. The topics include the controversy regarding pro-Western modernization and traditionalism, the myths of Romanian history and the relations with other ethnic groups, nationalism and Eastern Church, the cultural politics of fascism and communism, as well as ongoing debates after 1989 and the integration into the EU.
