Description
Disposal of hazardous wastes in India poses severe threat owing to increasing trend of the quantum generation of such wastes as against the fixed land available for disposal. Installation of TSDF for hazardous wastes has an important role to play in this regards. This book attempts to assess the viability of a proposed TSDF in abandoned stone mine comparing it with two other types of sites, namely abandoned open cast coal mine and fertile/agricultural land. Locational criteria and other associated factors available under Indian regulatory regimes are largely utilized with the findings of a brief review of background research works based on TSDF to develop this presentation. The SWOT and conceptual cost analyses carried out in a realistic manner on the proposed TSDF showing the financial gains to be attained by the Government are incorporated. This book, thus attempts to cover a broad audience for instance, the academicians as well as researchers engaged in environmental (waste) management practices, policy makers as well as regulatory agencies responsible for framing and implementing various environmental regulations respectively, and finally the practicing environmental engineers.
