Geographically, the state of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, is situated in the mountainous region of Northern Pakistan and in the foothills of Himalayas. This region reflects rich biodiversity in Pyrus. Pear stands 2nd in ranking after and is excellent source of carbohydrates, vitamins, mineral and dietary fiber. It is relished for their buttery, juicy, fine texture and flavor and helpful in reducing body weight. Systematic studies for the selection of desirable pear genotypes and fruit quality have not yet been conducted so far. In present studies, promising genotypes were screened out for fruit quality parameters and horticultural interest and genotypes locally called 'Frashishi' and 'Desi nashpati' had the excellent fruit quality. Similarly, locally called 'Bagugosha', 'Glass', 'Khurolli', 'Kotharnul', 'Desi nash', 'Desi nakh', 'Kshmiri nakh', 'Pathar nakh', 'Khar nakh' and 'Nashpati' also had the fruits of good quality.
