William Pemble (1591-1623) was born to poor parents in 1591 in Egerton, Kent. In 1610 he was admitted to Magdalen College, Oxford, where he graduated in 1614, having been tutored by the Puritan Richard Capel. He later served as a tutor himself, and then distinguished himself as a preacher. He worked at his studies and preaching so hard that it damaged his health, and he died of a fever in 1623 while visiting his mentor. Pemble's works were all published posthumously. None of them have been reprinted since the 17th century until now.
