Description
Floods, a natural hydrological disaster, adversely affect the globe with economic losses, environmental problems and human casualties. This book deals with the flood modelling and flood hazard assessment for a major flood-prone basin in eastern India. Trend analysis is carried out for extreme precipitation events in the upper and middle region of the basin which is believed to be responsible for flood in the lower delta region of the basin. Flood frequency analysis of peak flow at the head of the delta region is carried out for different periods to study the change in flood regime of the basin. Digital elevation model generated from Cartosat-1 image is taken as topographic data sources for flood modelling using MIKEFLOOD model. At the end, flood hazard is assessed for changing flood scenario in delta region of Mahanadi basin.
