This work, edited by Maria Pia Pettinau Vescina, not only enhances the value of the sacred vestments but ultimately also encapsulates over four centuries of history. It is a history of uninterrupted connections between Europe and the Holy Land, first with the european monarchies and royal dynasties and later with the nation states, a history of liturgy and worship, of devotion and its external manifestations, translated into artistic canons, tastes and experiences altering over time and space.
