Film songs is also a genere of Urdu poetry that is not given its due importance. However, many famous Urdu poets have earned name in the field of film songs. The celebrated laureate Kaifi Azmi (1909-2002), father of famous Bollywood Actress Shabana Azmi, was one of them. He was a progressive writer and his songs too had a leftist trend.
