Alexandros Papageorgiou-Venetas has for many years studied the founding of the modern city of Athens, investigating the archive material in both Athens and Munich. In this book he presents, analyses and comments on the various town plans put forward for Athens. The monograph, which contains anecdotal evidence and drawings, is a substantial contribution to the history of European town-planning.
