Description
The geological framework of Queensland during Proterozoic time consists of numerous provinces and domains scattered throughout the northwest, north, northeast, and southeast regions. The Mount Isa Province in Northwest Queensland, the Etheridge, Savannah, and Croydon Provinces in North Queensland, the regional setting and styles of mineralization in Northeast Queensland, and the Gympie Province in Southeast Queensland supported mineralization which produced gold and associated minerals. This book attempts to characterize both framework and mineralization elements. Chapter 1 begins with an introduction to the geological framework of Queensland. Chapter 2 begins the regional discussion with Northwest Queensland focusing on Proterozoic geological domains. Chapter 3 discusses Proterozoic geodynamics of the Mount Isa Province from pre-1870 Ma to 1500 Ma. Chapter 4 correlates Proterozoic geodynamics in Northwest Queensland through presentation of eleven time slices covering the same time sequences covered in Chapter 3. Chapter 5 presents provincial geology of North Queensland discussing intrusion related gold systems. Chapter 6 covers Northeast Queensland classes of mineralization. Chapter 7 summarizes regional exploration geochemistry and regolith deposits in Northeast Queensland. Chapter 8 presents Southeast Queensland Volcanic and Plutonic Province, the Gympie Province, economic geology, and mineral deposits. Chapter 9 closes the book with a discussion of Southeast Queensland paleo-drainage patterns and alluvial gold prospectives.
