Larry Berg is a 41-year-old workaholic who has everything he needs to have the perfect family, without having the family. As a confirmed, lifelong bachelor (and unapologetic curmudgeon) Larry is more than content to go about his business and occupying his time by working two full-time jobs and a part-time job on the weekends. However, once Emily Richter, a new pharmacist who works at the same hospital Larry does notices him, she wastes little time staking her claim, only to have her advances spurned. Undaunted, Emily continues pursuing Larry, even after one of his neighbors, a young woman named Jordan Marciano, successfully convinces Larry to date her. This, in tandem with her own obsession, eventually drives Emily so far into the depths of madness she becomes willing to do anything to have her beloved Larry to herself.
