Description

There is no shortage of guides to aid you to get into medical school. However, there are multiple pathways to getting into medical school. Some of these paths are associated with unnecessary stress and others take into account your mental health. My opinion is that, if your path to medical school embodies certain tenets, then you can incorporate your mental health on your journey to becoming a physician; in fact, you can prioritize it. And this has been the purpose of this 2-year long passion project: to give you these tenets and to give you one example of a template of a path a student might use to get into medical school while prioritizing their mental health. The true goal of this project is to create systemic change in the field of medicine by starting with how students think about the process of getting into medical school. Being a physician entails a high suicide rate - the highest out of any other profession (2022 Medscape National Physician Burnout & Suicide Report). I believe this trend of our mental health coming second to medicine starts when students are in their premedical careers. To this end, the goal of this guide is to give you a framework to understand the process of becoming a doctor in such a way that you can enjoy your life, follow your passions, and become a complete, humanistic doctor.
