Spacetime Dynamics: Core Principles of Relativistic Physics

AUTHOR Siddharth Verma
PUBLISHER Self (01/01/2024)
PRODUCT TYPE Paperback (Paperback)

Description
Time is a fundamental natural phenomenon. It is the basis of everything. Understanding how time works helps us to improve our understanding of the universe.

Time dilation and length contraction are relativistic effects of time. These effects state that time varies according to the velocity of an object.

Time dilation

Time dilation is the slowing down of time for an object as its velocity approaches the speed of light. When an object approaches the speed of light, its time starts to slow down relative to time on Earth.

Albert Einstein first predicted the time dilation effect in his theory of relativity. He showed that as an object approaches the speed of light, the force acting on it decreases. This decrease in force causes the object's time to slow down.

Length contraction

Length contraction is the shrinking of length in the direction of motion of an object as its velocity approaches the speed of light. When an object approaches the speed of light, its length starts to shrink relative to length on Earth.

Length contraction is similar to time dilation in that it is also caused by the decrease in force acting on an object as its velocity approaches the speed of light.

Relativity of simultaneity

The relativity of simultaneity is the concept that two events that are simultaneous for one observer may not be simultaneous for another observer in motion relative to the first observer.

The relativity of simultaneity is a consequence of the theory of relativity. It is caused by the fact that time varies according to the velocity of an object.
