"Throughout history, many places have been looted for various reasons. In India's history, even the English banks, English railway carriages, and English treasuries were looted. The English also looted Indian temples. However, the loot of the Umri Bank during Operation Umari stands out as particularly unique. Approximately 172 freedom fighters were involved in this loot. After the Umri Bank heist, the stolen money, which amounted to around ?20,66,000, was hidden in the haveli of Govind Bhai Shroff and Swami Ramand Teerth in Solapur on the Umrikhed road. Later, under the leadership of Vallabhbhai Patel, a meticulous audit was conducted, and the exact amount was accounted for. Even today, this loot by freedom fighters remains distinct. In 1948, the value of the stolen money was significant, considering that the price of gold was ?88.62 per 10gram. The money was utilized for the benefit of the country."
