In response to the growing recognition that traditional sociological methods often fail to capture the entire spectrum of social life, visual sociology emerged as a subdiscipline. Through the use of various visual materials such as photographs, movies, paintings, advertisements, and digital media, visual sociology seeks to discover the underlying meanings, beliefs, and values embodied within this kind of visual expression. This approach not only enriches our understanding of society, but also engages with the visual world around us, challenging us to re-evaluate ways of interpretation.
