Design and Modeling of a Solar-Powered Electric Vehicle

AUTHOR Samanta, Hiranmoy; Paul, Joydip; Mitra, Somnath
PUBLISHER LAP Lambert Academic Publishing (07/04/2025)
PRODUCT TYPE Paperback (Paperback)

Description
One of today's greatest engineering challenges is the need for clean energy sources. Much of the world remains heavily dependent on natural gas and coal for electricity. Although abundant, these sources contribute significantly to global warming. Moreover, extraction methods such as fracking have been linked to environmental damage, including induced earthquakes. This project focuses on designing a solar-powered electric vehicle capable of regenerating power using solar technology. If such vehicles became commercially standard, the demand for fossil fuels could be significantly reduced. A major challenge is ensuring practicality: the vehicle must be lightweight to reduce the size and power of the motor needed for urban transportation. The prototype is designed for a single driver, though real-world use would require space for additional passengers or cargo. Another key consideration is solar panel efficiency-ensuring that enough energy is generated in a reasonable timeframe to power the vehicle effectively.
