On the one hand, he is considered to be "the" painter of Worpswede. On the other hand, his name is closely connected to that of his wife, the painter Paula Modersohn-Becker, who died young. Looking beyond these two seminal aspects of the painter's life, the author presents Otto Modersohn as an artist whose multifaceted oeuvre had a lasting effect on the development of German landscape painting.
