Maria, the main character, does not understand why her mother keeps pressuring her to attend Greek lessons, on a Saturday, of all days, when her friends are relaxing and having fun! She is so frustrated with her Greek - Canadian family, that she does not want to participate in any of their traditions or customs. With Orthodox Easter coming up, her parents are worried and try to find ways to include her. Will they be able to spark that Greek flame in her or will this be another Greek tragedy? In all cases, her younger sister will have everyone crying from laughter in the end. This book is written and illustrated to include authentic Greek voices and cultural elements that are evident throughout in words and illustrative details. It is witty and funny but most of all relatable to any child who feels obligated to their family's country and culture of origin. My hope is that by the end it will at least have them all wondering with a smile.
