Emmeluth spent most of his teaching career in upstate New York. In 1999, he retired from the State University of New York system and moved to Savannah, Georgia. He became a member of the Biology Department of Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, where he teaches a course entitled Principles of Biology, Microbiology, Microorganisms, and Disease.
