An illustrated adaptation of the Norse saga, this tale chronicles the adventures of a group of Vikings as they colonize Greenland, Markland, and Vinland. The events chronicled include those that led to Erik the Red's banishment to Greenland, as well as Leif Ericson's discovery of Vinland, believed to be modern-day Newfoundland, when his ship was blown off course. Thought to have first been written in the 13th century, this tale suggests that Icelanders arrived in America in the year 1000, some five centuries before the arrival of Christopher Columbus.
